160 Tons Stainless Steel Coil Shipped to South Africa on September 5th
The third quarter of 2024 was a very business time for most steel suppliers in China. On the 5th of September, Qingdao Port just saw the departure of an shipment loaded with 160 tons of stainless steel coils to South Africa of our company. And this shipment has just arrived at Port Elizabeth in mid-October after a lengthy journey in the ocean!
Located at the southernmost tip of the African continent, South Africa is the most economically developed country in Africa with very abundant natural resources. It is bordered by the Indian Ocean and the Atlantic Ocean on its east, south and west sides, straddling the transportation hub of the two oceans. South Africa has very rich mineral resources as it is one of the five largest mineral resource countries in the world. It has a geological structure known as the second richest in minerals in the world. Its minerals are featured by broad varieties, large reserves, as well as consistent output. This order placed by our South African client features the 317L stainless steel coil, which is a lower carbon version of 317 stainless steel. So it has better corrosion resistance and higher creep strength at high temperatures. This type of stainless steel is composed of a mix of elements such as chromium, nickel, molybdenum, and carbon. Chromium is the main component of 317L stainless steel and gives the coil excellent corrosion resistance and high-temperature strength. In addition, there is molybdenum added to improve resistance to pitting corrosion from chloride solutions that are commonly found in harsh environments such as seawater or chemical processing plants. The precise balance between these elements ensures that 317L stainless steel performs better than traditional austenitic grades when used in high-temperature, corrosive environments.
