The application of stainless steel industry continues to expand, helping global industrial upgrading

 

In recent years, with the iterative upgrading of material technology and the in-depth practice of the concept of green development, stainless steel, relying on its core advantages of corrosion resistance, high strength, easy recyclability and versatility, has evolved from a traditional basic industrial material into a key support for the high-quality development of various industries. In the aerospace and defense fields, stainless steel materials such as 316L, with excellent corrosion resistance and strength-to-weight ratio, are widely used in aircraft exhaust systems, fuel pipelines and naval equipment, serving as a cost-effective alternative to titanium alloys and helping reduce the manufacturing cost of high-end equipment. In addition, the 0.015mm ultra-thin "tearable steel" developed by TISCO Stainless Steel is widely used in high-end products such as OLED flexible screens and new energy battery tabs, supporting the material backbone of high-end precision manufacturing.

 

In extreme environment applications, the weather resistance and reliability of stainless steel have been fully verified. A Nanjing enterprise won the bid for a marine natural gas project in the Arctic Circle, producing stainless steel ventilation pipe fittings resistant to ultra-low temperature (-50℃) and strong salt spray corrosion. Adopting independently developed special forming technology, it can maintain a service life of more than 20 years in the extreme environment of perennial sea ice and high salt and humidity, demonstrating the excellent quality of domestic stainless steel under harsh working conditions. In the oil and gas field, high-performance austenitic stainless steels such as 316L and 904L are widely used in key components such as downhole tubulars and subsea manifolds for deep-sea oil and gas exploitation, adapting to high-temperature, high-pressure and high-corrosion operating environments. The global oil and gas sector accounts for more than 30% of the total consumption of high-end stainless steel, becoming a core material support for the industry. In the new energy field, stainless steel helps realize the "dual carbon" goal. PV power station brackets adopt 304 and 316 stainless steel to ensure stable operation for more than 25 years, while cutting-edge fields such as hydrogen energy storage and transportation and fusion energy rely on ultra-low temperature stainless steel to break technical bottlenecks and foreign monopolies.

 

In the fields of people's livelihood and basic industries, stainless steel is widely used, balancing practicality and safety. In the construction field, duplex stainless steel, with the advantages of high strength and corrosion resistance, has become an ideal material for high-end building curtain walls and roofs. The Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge uses 8,200 tons of stainless steel rebars to resist marine corrosion, while iconic buildings such as the Canton Tower and the Sydney Opera House use stainless steel to demonstrate the integration of function and aesthetics. In the food processing and medical fields, the hygiene, sterilizability and biocompatibility of stainless steel are fully exerted. It is not only used as a food-grade material for kitchenware and processing equipment to ensure food safety, but also as a core material for medical devices such as surgical scalpels and artificial joints, reducing the risk of nosocomial infections and protecting life and health. In the automotive industry, 0.10-0.15mm ultra-thin embossed stainless steel is widely used in exhaust system heat shields, with the advantages of high temperature resistance and lightweight, helping automobiles reduce weight and consumption, improve corrosion resistance, and gradually expand to key components such as new energy vehicle battery compartments.

 

At the industry development level, policy support and technological innovation continue to promote the application upgrading of stainless steel. The implementation of policies such as the "Two News" policy and the trade-in of consumer goods is expected to drive an annual increase of about 12 million tons in stainless steel demand, further expanding application scenarios; the release of four new industry standards for high-strength stainless steel has filled the standard gaps in fields such as containers and home appliances, standardizing industry applications. At the same time, domestic stainless steel applications have gradually entered the global market. Jiugang's S31254 super austenitic stainless steel successfully entered the European market, passed strict EU certifications, entered the European high-end equipment manufacturing supply chain, broke the long-term monopoly of foreign enterprises, and demonstrated the international competitiveness of China's stainless steel applications.

 

Industry insiders said that the current stainless steel industry is transforming from "scale expansion" to "value improvement", and application innovation has become the core driving force. In the future, with the continuous improvement of the "government-industry-university-research-application" collaborative innovation mechanism, stainless steel will be more widely used in green energy, high-end manufacturing, people's livelihood security and other fields, while continuously improving product performance and optimizing application solutions, promoting the green upgrading and high-quality development of the global industry.
